Cold Fighting Turmeric Milk

turmeric milk

Holly Heck, I got beaten down with a flu/cold virus for the last 8 days! So not fun. I’m starting to feel a bit better, but this week was hard. It seems to be going around and it doesn’t help that my son brings home all the germs from school…. I havn’t had much time to be blogging this week, so I’m squeaking out this cold remedy to you instead. 😉 I figure someone you know could probably use it right now.

Turmeric has been used for thousands of years for it’s medicinal properties. Turmeric contains loads of nutrients especially antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds. Turmeric is nothing new to Eastern cultures, in fact it’s been known as a “healing spice” and can be used to help anything from sore throats, colds, flus, stomach aches to wound healing, due to it’s antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. Honey also has antibacterial properties to help fight off a cold and ginger can relieve a sore throat and loosen up congestion. This winning combination is the perfect warm drink to help you get well!

Homemade Dairy Free Hot Chocolate

best hot chocolate

Happy Sunday! I haven’t been much of a hot chocolate drinker the last few years…until now. 🙂 My son is in love with it and so I have been making if for him more often, especially on the dark and cold days. Most hot chocolate mixes are full of nasty ingredients, so make sure your read the labels. This recipe is pure chocolate, milk and honey. The perfect little treat. If  you fancy whip cream you can add some coconut whip on top. To make it extra special add some peppermint extract. I found the little sugar cookies in the photo at the farmer market last weekend and they are gluten free!!

Homemade Chai Spiced Tea

Chai tea recipe

I can’t believe it’s November already! Where did October go……….?? It’s a chilly cold day here in Vancouver today and that means it’s the perfect time to make chai tea. 😉 I’m so lucky to have had my mom make this tea from scratch when I was younger, so I know how good the real thing is. It’s one thing to buy a box of chai tea bags and make tea, it’s a whole other experience to make homemade chai with all the herbs and spices. If you ever go to Vij’s restaurant you should try their chai, it is the best I’ve ever had. This recipe is a close second. 😉 It takes a bit of time to make but it makes a big batch so you can store it in the fridge and reheat it whenever you want some. Perfect for a cozy night in.

Chai Pumpkin Lattes

Chai pumpkin lattes

I am sorry if you don’t like pumpkin…..  I’m currently obsessed! 😉 Fall is in full swing here in Vancouver and I lOVE it. I used to love going to Starbucks every fall to get their pumpkin spiced lattes. Now I know all of their yucky ingredients thanks to the food babe and so I would rather make my own version at home. I can’t drink coffee on my new diet but I think chai tea is ok, so that’s what I used. There is just something so nice about a warm cup of tea on a cold day. It’s one of my favourite things of all time! 😉 What is your favourite things about Fall?!

Maple Bourbon Chai Tea

Knob Creek Chai Tea drinks

Happy Monday. 🙂 Here in BC it was a holiday due to the Province wide stat “Family day”. I took my family swimming to the wave pool and we had a blast. It was the perfect day for it because it has been raining non stop here and no one wanted to play outside. When we got home I thought me and my hunny could use a nice warm drink…..We also had a bootle of Knob Creek smoked maple bourbon on our bar…..I looked up a few ideas of what to make with our bourbon and I saw a campfire toddy using chai tea and this warming boozy tea was created! This would be great for a warm me up drink after skiing or game night in a log cabin with friends. Now Im planning out next getaway in my head…….See what I little bourbon can do……. 😉

Tis the Season for Hot Toddy’s

hot toddy drink

Happy Friday! It was a long week at work for me and I am excited to celebrate the weekend, starting tonight! My man just finished his school work for the semester and now we have the next few weeks to relax and enjoy the holidays. 😉 I have actually never had a hot toddy before! I have heard about them since I was a teenager, my friend had a mug in her room that said “hot toddy”on it and I have been intrigued ever since. Wow, they are better then I could have imagined. I was shopping in chapters last weekend and found this cute little bootle of  spiced apple syrup from Morris’s Kitchen and I had to buy it. I have to admit that I get a bit carried away when I want to try a new drink…..I even bought new clear glass mugs to serve this wonderful drink in….. 🙂

Hot Toddy Ingedients

This hot toddy drink is great for warming you up on a cold winters night or hosting an adult game night in. I definitely give it a thumbs up! I would love to here from you if you love this drink or if you have another secret family drink recipe that warms you from the inside out… 😉 Have a great weekend everyone!
