Dairy Free Egg Nog

Wow, I can’t believe its only 2 weeks left till Christmas! December always flies by so fast. I recently went to a naturopath and got some food testing done…. It seems I am intolerant to a lot of foods, one of them being dairy. I have loved eggnog since I was a kid and since I have found that the store bought dairy free ones just haven’t seemed to taste anything like real eggnog, I decided it was time to make my own.

If any of you are interested in me doing a blog post about my trip, please leave me a comment below?! Elderberry and Pomegranate Cocktail

Vodka and elderberry

It’s holiday time!! 🙂 Which means you may be having a cocktail or 2….! I usually just stick to wine but I do enjoy a cocktail from time to time. This pomegranate and elderberry sparkling drink is just delicious, so refreshing. I served it to my girlfriend the other night and we both loved it. When I serve drinks, I like to serve snacks too. I am loving these cassava chips from Pura Vida. Cassava is a nutty flavored, starchy tuber of South American origin. Sweet and crunchy, it has been a popular edible root for centuries among many ancient cultures of the world. It’s a great alternative to potato chips and its healthier too. What is your favourite holiday drink or cocktail?!!

Tropical Peach and Pineapple Rum Slushy’s

Fruity Rum beach cocktails

Happy Friday!! 🙂 This week was a bit of a hard one for me work wise, so I’m very glad to see the weekend arrive. I haven’t been posting any summer cocktails recently and I thought it was due time. I finally have a fully stocked bar and I haven’t been using it much….lol.  So last night I got out my blender and made these icy cold rum slushy drinks and they were perfect. I didn’t add any extra sweetener as I am avoiding extra sugar. They tasted great to me but if you like drinks a bit sweeter you could add a bit of honey to your mix. I can’t believe that that summer is over in a few short weeks! I hope you all have an amazing weekend!

Rhubarb Raspberry & Vodka Jam Jars

Rhubarb and Vanilla Cocktails

I definitely think this is going to be a VERY hot summer! This fresh summer cocktail is perfect for a backyard BBQ. 😉 I don’t buy rhubarb that often but I really do enjoy it. It reminds me of summers as a kid growing up on Salt Spring Island. My mom would get a fresh bunch from a neighbour and we would dip them in sugar. What’s your favourite summer food? I love serving drinks in these cute recycled jam jars. Have a great weekend!

Gin Mojitos

Gin Mojitos

Happy Thirsty Thursday! 😉 This week went by in the blink of an eye…. Summer is just around the corner and so is patio season. 😉 I love a refreshing cocktail on a hot night. These mojitos are the perfect drink, I love using fresh herbs in my drinks. A classic mojito is made with rum and can be quite sweet, this recipe is more fresh and crisp. Mint is a great herb, it’s the perfect palate cleanser, it can be used as a breath freshener, is soothing on your stomach in cases of indigestion or inflammation and  it also helps to promote digestion. Have I given you enough reasons to try it in your next cocktail………..;)  This drink is sure to impress your guests at the next BBQ.

Lemongrass Kombucha Martinis

Lemongrass Martini

Is it Thirsty Thursdays?! 😉  I know I’m a health blogger and it might seem strange that I post alcoholic drink recipes, but I believe in moderation! I don’t drink every night but I do have the occasional glass of wine or tasty cocktail. 😉 If your eating healthy most of the time and drink lots of water, having the occasional french fry, pizza slice and glass of wine are all ok in my books. Life is for living and feeling deprived is not something I believe in! So lets talk about this delicious martini. I posted a drink last month with gin and rose kombucha and I let you know that kombucha is full of probiotics. So making your cocktails with this healthful mixer will help your body recover faster from the affects of the alcohol. I just love all of the flavour combinations from Rise Kombucha. Just remember to stay hydrated and drink lots of water with your cocktails and never drink on an empty stomach! Cheers. 😉

Maple Bourbon Blood Orange Cocktails

blood orange bourbon cocktails

What a beautiful Saturday morning it is here is Vancouver. Spring is coming………YAY! 😉 I think I will go for my first run of the year today. I usually work out in a gym or hot yoga studio but there is something to be said for just going outdoors and exercising in nature. We need to get natural sources of vitamin D as often as possible!

I must admit that I have never in my 3o plus years been a bourbon drinker…..until my boyfriend brought this smoked maple bourbon home in January. It’s soooo good. 🙂 I saw a drink with bourbon and oranges on Pinterest and knew that I just had to try one. The organic blood oranges I bought photographed so beautifully with their amazing colours. Last night me and my man had a couple of these cocktails before dinner and they are perfect for drink for him and her. They are not too sweet and not to stiff………The perfect match, manly bourbon mixed with maple and orange to make it a little sweeter. 😉 Try these for your next night in, you wont regret it.
