Coquitlam Farmers Market

Happy long weekend! 🙂 May long weekend has always been a favourite of mine. It always reminds me that summer is right around the corner. 😉 This year I didn’t plan too much, we mostly hung out and enjoyed our free time. Yesterday I hit the Coquitlam Farmers market with my 5 year old son. I love going to local farmers markets and finding fresh local food, hearing live music and meeting new people. Food just tastes better when it’s grown on a smaller scale and the farmer cares about his product. I especially love supporting the food trucks, my belly does too. They always seem like they are owned and operated by a family and you know they are putting some love into your food.

I scored some great local and organic produce as you can see from the picture above. I can’t wait to make some zucchini noodles this week. I also picked up some gorgeous rapini  with their yellow buds attached and I’m excited to find a recipe to use these in as well. I also nabbed a jar of homed sauerkraut, I love me some probiotic food. 😉 I had no idea that farmers markets could sell alcohol until yesterday. I think it’s new, I stopped at the Kalala Organic Wine table and tried a few wines. I went home with the Cru Nomad 2012 bottle of white wine and it was very tasty. 😉 This wine was a nice blend of varieties including; pino gris, sauvignon blanc and gewurtraminer. I highly recommend it, the winery is in the Okanagan. [one_half last=”no” class=”” id=””]

My son loves his grilled cheese so we stopped at the Cheese St Grill truck and he ordered the 3 cheese sandwich. I got their rustic organic homemade tomato soup and we split this massive basket of food. There were hand cut kettle chips and dill pickles included in our lunch. Tasty comfort food for sure! 🙂 [one_half last=”no” class=”” id=””]

I try to avoid eating too much gluten as it aggravates my stomach. It’s actually harder then you think to find a decent gluten free bread that tastes good. I was happy to discover that this great local company doesn’t use any nasty ingredients to make their bread taste better. Plus the bread has extra protein because its made with quinoa. 😉 If you live out in the Tri-Cities I highly recommend checking out the Coquitlam farmers market, it runs every Sunday until October!
